Bridgeport
The original community of Bridgeport was located downstream, just around the bend of Clouds Creek, along the banks of the Holston River. This community was flooded in approximately 1941, with the completion of the Cherokee Lake Dam. During the winter months, when the water levels are at their lowest, some of the building foundations are still visible. The above is a scanned photograph of the Bridgeport Church.
Above, is a scan of a page from an old book. Indeed, some of the maps of this area show the boundaries for this Cherokee Indian Territory. Although the historical marker is no longer present, the present Bridgeport Bay is located toward the upper right hand side of this scan.
